Gloria Levicán received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from U. Chile in 2003. Between 2003 and 2005 she completed her postdoctoral studies in molecular biology and physiology of acidophiles with Dr. Orellana at U. Chile and Dr. Söll at U. Yale (New Haven, USA). Between 2006 and 2007 he worked as a researcher at Biosigma SA. Since 2008 is a professor at USACH, where she directs the Basic and Applied Microbiology Laboratory. Research of Dr. Levicán is focused on the elucidation of the molecular elements involved in the adaptation of microorganisms to extreme environmental conditions. The studies have been focused on acidophilic bioleaching bacteria.
