Karina Antúnez is a microbiologist. She obtained her bachelor’s degree, MSc and Doctoral degree from Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Since 2001 she is part of the Department of Microbiology of the Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable, in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her research line is focused in the study of the different factors that affect honey bees, as well as the development of strategies to improve their health. Specifically, she studies the effect of pathogens (bacteria, virus, fungi), probiotics, nutrition and pesticides in bee’s health. Recently she has started the study of the effect of these factors in bee’s intestinal microbiota.
