Pilar Junier obtained her degree in Biology from the National University, Colombia. She continued her studies with a PhD in Sciences with mention in Microbiology awarded at the University of Chile, Chile. She is currently a Full Professor at the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. She directs a scientific research team focusing on microbial ecology and microbe-microbe interactions. Her research topics are diversified ranging from bacterial dormancy to plant growth promotion and microbial biotechnology. Her group combines culturing and molecular approaches to study microbial communities in environments such as the deep subsurface, geothermal sites, soil, waste, or art works.
In addition to her passion for research, Pilar Junier is interested in fostering the connection of science and society by developing innovative teaching approaches.
